Sintered stone steps outside
UV-stable, heat-proof and virtually unscratchable — sintered stone is the smart pick for outdoor kitchens and BBQs.

Outdoor kitchens and BBQ areas used to mean stainless steel or tile — functional but not exactly beautiful. Sintered stone has changed that. These ultra-compact surfaces are made by compressing natural minerals at extreme heat and pressure, replicating the conditions that form volcanic rock. The result is a material that’s virtually indestructible outdoors.
Sintered stone is UV-stable, so it won’t fade or yellow in sunlight. It’s heat-resistant — you can take a hot grill tray straight off the BBQ and set it on the surface without a trivet. It’s frost-resistant, so it won’t crack in a British winter. And it’s non-porous, so it won’t stain from grease, wine or ketchup.

The main brands — Dekton, Lapitec, Neolith — offer slabs large enough for a full outdoor worktop run with minimal joints. They come in finishes that mimic natural stone, concrete and metal, so you can match the aesthetic of your indoor kitchen for a seamless indoor-outdoor flow.
Installation matters. Outdoor sintered stone needs a properly engineered substrate (not just timber joists) and stainless-steel hardware that won’t rust. Use a fabricator who specifically works on outdoor projects — the tolerances and fixing methods are different from indoor worktops. It’s an investment, but it’s a surface that will outlast the kitchen itself.
